The Hacienda Luisita Tragedy

It was one bloody day at the Hacienda Luisita last Nov. 16, 2004 when the dispersal of the strike that turned out to be unruly and disruptive. The death of 14 farmers including women and children and 200 wounded sprawled before the public eye when amateur videos was filled in the tube.
This is the result of the laborers cause to reinstate the 300 workers who were laid of from the workforce of the Hacienda. The penetration of non-Tarlac residents who joined the bloody strike was claimed to have been armed that initiated the shooting. Reports claimed that the leftist guerilla group of the NPA was behind supporting the strikers.
The labor union cried for justice and the pressure to PGMA, and the Conjuangco’s is now taking place including the removal of the Labor Secretary who should have full control in the labor crisis with the Hacienda .
The government claimed maximum tolerance when the protesters heated arguments with the officers became unmanageable. Surviving victims said that an APC tank rumbled the picketline and shoots were heard from different directions. The strike was violently broken to allow the entry of 50 sugarcane trucks for milling.
One can not just help but mourn for the families affected by that bloody incident inside the Hacienda which were once viewed as the royal family’s domicile. Not, it seems the growling incident stained that picture in the minds of the younger generation who could only hope that someday they can be of the same dimension with the family of Kris Aquino.
Let’s pray for temperance especially in this time of troubled workers and management of the Hacienda Luisita. That’s the best contribution one can give in the distressed institution of the Cojuangco’s. [back]
